Do Your Research

Like anything else purchased online, baseball bats must be carefully researched. Even seemingly legitimate sites like Amazon might sell damaged or overpriced bats (in the "used" section, of course), while less monitored sites like Craigslist may even have posts that are complete scams. Buying a used bat is a good idea if you are looking to purchase a bat for someone who is just starting out, or if you play very infrequently. Many used bats are in decent condition, and may simply be the result of an overcrowded garage or a disinterested young boy. If buying directly from the seller, insist on seeing a picture of the bat, and never send cash in the mail. If possible, use a secure money exchange method like PayPal. On the other hand, if you intend on buying your baseball bat new, make sure you do a different type of research: product comparison. Dick's Sporting Goods may charge you $15 more than Target for the same bat, or vice versa, so try to look around or call your area sporting goods stores before making your purchase. Also look to see if the websites of these stores offer deals on online purchases. With careful research, you may be able to buy your bat without paying for shipping.
